Anniversary of the First Ascent of Chomolungma
May 29, 1953: New Zealander Edmund Hillary and Nepalese Sherpa Tenzing Norgay became the first to reach the summit of Mount Everest on the Nepal-Tibet border. The duo reached the top of the world after a gruelling climb up the southern face.
The Indian national flag was hoisted on Mt Everest, the highest peak in the world, along with the Union Jack and the Nepalese National flag.
